Aug 15 Weekend recap report So what's been happening lately?
Over on Lake Ontario we are now transitioning into "stager season".
What does this mean? We'll dive deeper in detail into this topic in the next couple days. For now, in a nutshell things are slowly changing now as far as the habits of the larger mature salmon. Fishing is still pretty good across the lake out of most ports. Though as we typically see with summer full moon periods, it can slow down the action for a few days, especially the early morning flurry we get accustomed too. It can be frustrating to see many fish on the screen but not seeing the rods bounce. Generally us anglers have 2 options. 1) grind it out & tweak a few things until they bite or 2) pick up and move to find more active fish elsewhere. Last week we saw one the largest Salmon of the season weighed in at Bluffers, a 35.58 specimen!

On Saturday the King Of The Lake Salmon Tournament series wrapped in in Cobourg. Many nice fish caught and it was Capt. Clint McCauley & Team Get It Wet taking the win. Congratulations to team Salmon Quest who won the Overall Season Championship. Special tip of of the hat to our Pro team, Team Two Fish who finished 3rd in the tournament & 3rd overall
The St Catharines Game and Fish Association has their Fall Salmon Derby starting on Sat Aug 20. Details for that can be found here:

For those just wanting to get into good numbers of fish, the 200-350 FOW range is still good for a mixed bag of Chinook, Coho & Rainbow trout. A simple spread of spoons & some flasher fly combos will get the job done for you. You will find pockets of fish out there. Look for defined temp breaks and/or scum/debris.
On Lake Erie it's safe to say that the Walleye action is now at its peak. We are hearing of very good action now from Nanticoke to Port Colborne.
Good numbers being caught in shallow along structure still but also 60-70 FOW. Again you gotta eliminate water to find the active schools. With the water warming up, the walleye are getting deeper. Some boats doing better with worm harnesses, while others preferring to fish a bit faster with stick baits or spoons.
Only a few weeks left in summer... time to make the most of it!
