FISHING REPORT UPDATE - OCT 16
We're into Mid October now & for those who have not put the boats away yet, there is still some really good fishing to be had. Also for those without boats, you can still get in on the action. The key is being flexible to change plans based on weather/water conditions. When you get a good window of opportunity you gotta go for it.
On Lake Ontario, for this wanting to troll, if you get a nice clear calm day, you can still pursue next years crop of Chinook, Coho & Rainbows offshore. 200-250 FOW would be a good starting point. Be prepared to cover lots of water though, if you find baitfish schools, the fish should not be too far behind.
In shore, the fall Salmon run is nearly over. But the Brown Trout & Steelhead fishing is beginning & will be getting better soon. Bottom bouncing or float fishing roe bags or egg imitations in the rivers & harbors, will be good choices. Casting spoons can be good as well.
As always we encourage you to check the MNR regulations if you are unsure of seasons & or boundaries. Please note, that Lake Trout is now closed on Lake Ontario / Lower Niagara until Dec 1.
On Lake Erie after all these winds, there still is some Walleye being caught off Nanticoke/Maitland but its slowing down. For the while tough there will be Walleye cruising the shorelines and you can get them trolling in shallow in the evening's with large stick baits.
Perch fishing has been good off Crystal beach, port Colborne & Maitland. 55-70 FOW.
For the next few weeks some of the best Smallmouth bass fishing is happening too. The whole shoreline from Fore Erie to Nanticoke is really good. Dont miss out out on some the best action of the year
Perch fishing on Lake Simcoe now is very good. Cooks Bay, Pefferlaw & Virginia beach are all great spots. Cover water by throwing small plastic minnows/swim baits until you find them.
Of course the Muskie fishing is really good now too. Niagara River, Lake St Clair, & the Kawartha's being popular destinations.
Numbers of Walleye are being caught at the Bay Of Quinte too now, of course it will only get better there too in the weeks ahead.
