Labor Day Long Weekend Recap
Long Weekend Recap!
Leading up to the weekend we sure enjoyed a few nice days of ideal weather. On Lake Ontario the fishing for staging Salmon was starting to get pretty good. Good reports of fish being caught from Dalhousie to the Niagara bar. 40 -120 FOW. We also hear good reports from Grimsby and Bronte in similar depths. Herring strips and flasher fly combos continue to produce for bigger fish.
Congratulations to team Reel Therapy ( David Morrison) for winning the main & Calcutta Division of the Strait Line Anglers Club CATCH THE FRY SALMON TOURNAMENT on Saturday. 71.58 (3 fish) & 105.11 lbs (5 fish) Reel It Up ( Mike Duncan) won the big fish pot with a 29.60 king.
One observation by many has been the big number of huge Coho Salmon being caught recently between 12-15lbs. A little unusual for us to be getting them in great numbers this time of year but certainly welcome! A few nice brown trout also being caught in shallower. Those wanting to catch a mixed bag of species and good numbers of fish, from 200-400 FOW has been very good. We will see what happens after this rain & east winds. The salmon are moving in closer and some have even begin running the rivers and harbors too. So get your casting spoons & plugs ready!
Lake Erie Walleye fishing continues to be very in many of the same locations as we've discussed recently. It will all slowly start to change in the come weeks so get out there when you next get the chance. This weekend is the Fall Frenzy Walleye Tournament out of Nanticoke. Good luck to all participants.
